Jennifer Sudarsky, M.D.

Biography

Dr. Jennifer Sudarsky is a diplomat of both American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Holistic Medicine. As a Family Practitioner she has formal training in Internal Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry. As a Holistic Practitioner, she is versed in a wide variety of complementary therapies including nutritional supplementation, herbal remedies and yoga therapy.

Dr. Sudarsky integrates conventional and complementary medicine to develop safe, effective treatment plans for her patients. She has been described as a "graceful and intuitive" healer who partners with patients in a respectful way to achieve optimal health of mind, body and spirit. She strives to teach by example and in turn is always open to learning from her patients and colleagues.

In addition to the above professional qualifications, Dr. Sudarsky has had a number of life experiences that influence her practice on a daily basis. For example, she has traveled extensively as a medical volunteer and educator in Asia, Africa, South America, Mexico and the U.S.A... As a result of this international work in health care, Dr. Sudarsky had a career in the publishing and entertainment industries, and can appreciate firsthand the impact different careers have on one's well-being.

Dr. Sudarsky was raised in New England and Manhattan. She has an Ivy League education and is happily married to her college boyfriend Steven Lopez, AIA. They live in Marina del Rey, California and are the proud parents of two children, Sophie and Jonah.

Holistic Medicine

Holistic Medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses care of the whole person - body, mind, and spirit. As a holistic physician, Dr. Sudarsky integrates conventional and alternative therapies to help patients achieve balance in their life. Dr. Sudarsky will work with you to develop an optimal health plan, which may involve other practitioners at our medical center. In time, our integrative treatment can result in a mindful state of well being regardless of the presence or absence of disease.

Your healing journey with Dr. Sudarsky will begin with a comprehensive evaluation of many aspects of your daily life. This includes a detailed review of your

  • health concerns and what they mean to you;
  • past and current illnesses;
  • family, work and other environmental issues;
  • emotional issues;
  • daily habits including sleep, diet, meditation, exercise and spiritual practices;
  • herbs, supplements and medications;
  • allergies and sensitivities;
  • previous and concurrent evaluations and treatments.

After reviewing your history, Dr. Sudarsky will perform a complete physical exam and then develop an assessment and plan in partnership with you. Further testing may be needed to clarify your diagnosis or refine your therapeutic options. It may take anywhere from one to three visits to complete a thorough evaluation and plan. Beyond that, we hope to be a part of your evolving wellness journey for many years to come

Dr. Sudarsky adheres to the Ten Principles of Holistic Medical Practice listed below.

  1. Optimal health is the primary goal of holistic medical practice. It is the conscious pursuit of the highest level of functioning and balance of the physical, environmental, mental, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of human experience, resulting in a dynamic state of being fully alive. This creates a condition of well being regardless of the presence or absence of disease.
  2. The Healing Power of Love. Holistic health care practitioners strive to meet the patient with grace, kindness, acceptance, and spirit without condition because they believe that love is life's most powerful healer.
  3. Whole Person . Holistic health care practitioners view people as the unity of body, mind, spirit and systems in which they live.
  4. Prevention and treatment. Holistic health care practitioners promote health, prevent illness and help raise awareness of disease in our lives rather than merely managing symptoms. A holistic approach relieves symptoms, modifies contributing factors, and enhances the patient's life to optimize well being.
  5. Innate Healing Power. All people have innate powers of healing in their bodies, minds and spirits. Holistic health care practitioners evoke and help patients utilize these powers to affect the healing process.
  6. Integration of Healing Systems. Holistic health care practitioners embrace a lifetime of learning about all safe and effective options in diagnosis and treatment. These options come from a variety of traditions, and are selected in order to meet the unique needs of the patient. The realm of choices may include lifestyle modification and complementary approaches as well as conventional drugs and surgery.
  7. Relationship-centered care. The ideal practitioner-patient relationship is a partnership that encourages patient autonomy, and values the needs and insights of both parties. The quality of this relationship is an essential contributor to the healing process.
  8. Individuality. Holistic Health care practitioners focus patient care on the unique needs and nature of the person who has an illness rather than the illness that has the person.
  9. Teaching by example. Holistic health care practitioners continually work toward the personal incorporation of the principles of holistic health, which then profoundly influence the quality of the healing relationship.
  10. Learning opportunities. All life experiences including birth, joy, suffering and the dying process are profound learning opportunities for both patients and health care practitioners.

These principles were originally codified by The American Holistic Medical Association in 1978 and were most recently updated in February 2004.
